Evil and suffering
Moral evil - something caused by humans using their free will.

Natural evil - suffering that has not been cause by humans.

People may not believe in God because they would say that there would be no evil in the world if he really existed. A good God should not want such things to happen, and a powerful God ought to get rid of it.

Catholics respond in four different ways.

Response 1- They believe there must be a reason for evil and suffering, but humans can't understand it. Follow the example of Jesus and fight it.

Response 2 - God gave humans free will so he created a world which evil and suffering would come about.

Reason 3 - They believe it is preparation for paradise. People need to improve their souls. He will reward people in heaven if they help people.

Reason 4 - Humans cannot understand why he does not remove it. God is divine and we can't understand his thoughts.
