A 45-year-old man presents with chronic nasal congestion. He has been using a topical 12-hour-duration nasal decongestant for the last several weeks, which has, up until recently, been very effective. Initially, he used it only a couple of times per day. Now, he states that he has to use it every 2 to 3 hours. If he does not use the nasal spray, he feels very congested and cannot breathe. He denies purulent drainage or epistaxis.
