Stacey, Cassie, Christopher-John and
Little man. They are all related.

Discrimination was very high in Mississippi.The Children had to walk in the rain and get soaked.

Little man is 6 years old, and he hates getting dirty. He always wants to be clean.

Stacey is 12 years old and he is always moody and grumpy. He is the oldest and is very scary but smart.

The parents and the school life is also introduced in Chapter 1. We see in chapter 1 about Cassie's teacher, Mrs.Crocker.

The school provides them with very low standards of items and the children and other black children are not respected in the school.

We also hear some news about a family called 'The Berry's'' who were burnt down to death by the ''whites''.
