What is Composites
-Two or more materials mixed together by some kind of bonding.
-The composite has improved mechanical, functional & aesthetically.
Glass reinforced plastic (GRP)
Made from thermosetting plastic resin that has been rein forced using very fine glass
Carbon Fibre
The carbon fibres are able to take tensile loads, are set onto a polymer matrix that is able to take big loads. much stronger than GRP.
Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)
Most common and widespread composite material. It is mainly made from waste wood. It can be laminated to improve its strength/aesthetics.
Chipboard
Like MDF, waste wood is glues together under heat and pressure leaving a smooth surface. It comes in normal and high density
Laminates
produced by bonding two or more layers of material. It is a very stable material. They do not warp or misshape and they are easy worked.
Plywood
Made from layers of veneers that are bonded together using glue (veneers are thin layers of wood). Plywood is strong as the grain goes different directions.
Blockboard
Made up of strips of softwood; they are positioned edge-to-edge. The side of the sheet that is produced is covered with veneer then glued together
