The need for manufacturing industries to cut down on the time and costs involved in developing a new product has led to the development of rapid prototyping (RPT). This involves the creating of 3D objects using laser technology to solidify liquid plastic polymers or resins in a process called stereo-lithography.
The laser draws the first layer of the shape on to the surface with resin, which causes it to solidify. This process of drawing, solidifying and moving down quickly builds up one layer on top of another until the final 3D design is complete.
the main disadvantage of RPT with stereo-lithography is the cost. Although the cost of each model to be manufactured is determined by a number factors including size and complexity.
