Look at the question 1 in the picture opposite and the section of text which a candidate has highlighted with possible quotes.
The problem is that the candidate has highlighted far too much of the text. Please choose the examples from the text which would be acceptable as answers to the question set.

Look at the response to a question 2 from Paper 1 in which the candidate has provided 2 direct quotations. Although the response would have got the candidate the 2 marks on offer, the second example would have been better if it had been paraphrased using the candidates own words but retaining the meaning of the quote.
