A landscape is ... an area of land that you can see from a particular point
In a landscape there are two types of elements Natural and Man-made
Those not made by man are Natural elements
Examples of natural elements are Relief Water Vegetation Fauna
Relief is mountains, plains, valleys...
Water elements are rivers, seas, lakes...
Fauna are all the animals
Vegetation are all the plants
Man-made elements are things made by people such as: houses, roads, train tracks ...
There are four main types of landscape 1. Interior: Mountain and flatland 2. Coastal 3. Urban 4. Desert
All landscapes change over time by ... Natural causes: floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions ... Man-made causes: the building of roads, houses, tunnels, and bridges.
Interior landscapes can be Mountain areas or flat areas
The most common landform in mountain areas are Mountains
Mountains have three parts Summit, slope and foot
Mountain ranges are formed when mountains are close together forming groups
Other isolated elevations are Hillocks, hills and massif
Hillocks are not very high and rounded in shape
Hills are similar to mountains but not as high
Massif is a group of old corroded mountains
Flat landscapes are interior landscapes (NOT by the coast), and flat
Plains are large areas of flat land
A fertile plane is an area of flat land close to a river
Flat land that is higher than the land around it is a plateau
A valley is a flat land between mountains
Flat land that is lower than the land around it is a gorge
Characteristics of Life in Mountain areas 1. Very few people live there. 2. The towns are small. 3. The climate is harsh, so life is difficult. 4. They work on agriculture, livestock farming, mining and crafts. 5.Animals and plants have adapted to the climate.
Characteristics of Life in the Flatlands 1. Many few people live there. 2. The towns and cities are big. 3. The climate is much milder. 4. They work mainly on tourism and industry, and also on agriculture and livestock. 5. There are more services and amenities,
Coastal landscape is where the land and the sea meet
A cliffed coast is where there are cliffs
A flat coast is where there are beaches.
There are three main types of coastal landforms Gulf, Bay, and Coves or inlets
Headlands Are areas of hard rock that stick out to the sea
a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides except one is a peninsula
Islands are pieces of land surrounded by water on all sides.
Archipelagos are groups of islands close to each other.
Straits are narrow bodies of water that connect two larger bodies of water.

Life on the coast 1. There are small fishing villages and also big cities. 2. They are touristic areas. 3. The climate is mild. 4. Cities are normally well connected. 5. Many people work on fishing and on tourism.
