Enlightenment | the state of understanding something. Example: Can you give me any enlightenment on what happened? |
Infer | to form an opinion or guess that something is true because of the information that you have. Example: What do you infer from her refusal? |
Invigorated | to make someone feel fresher, healthier, and more energetic. Example: We were invigorated by our walk. |
Incensed | extremely angry. Example: The villagers are incensed at the decision to close the railway station. |
Lapse | a temporary failure: Example: The management's decision to ignore the safety warnings demonstrated a remarkable lapse of judgment. |
Lengthened | to make something longer, or to become longer. Example: I'll have to lengthen this skirt. |
Grasp | to quickly take something in your hand(s) and hold it firmly. Example: Rosie suddenly grasped my hand. |
Prompt | to make something happen. Example: The bishop's speech has prompted an angry response from both political parties. |
Morbid | too interested in unpleasant subjects, especially death. Example: a morbid fascination with death |
Meanigless | without representing or expressing anything; without referring to someone or something. Example: The leaflet was full of meaningless information. |
Menial | used to describe work that does not need any skills and is badly paid and often boring: Example: The economic climate has seen overqualified candidates applying for a succession of menial jobs |
Heritage | features belonging to the culture of a particular society, such as traditions, languages, or buildings, that were created in the past and still have historical importance. Example: These monuments are a vital part of the cultural heritage of South America. |
Torch | a small light that is held in the hand and usually gets its power from batteries. Example: She flashed/shone the torch into the dark room. |
Sophisticated | having a good understanding of the way people behave and/or a good knowledge of culture and fashion. Example: She was slim, svelte, and sophisticated. |
Suspicion | a belief or idea that something may be true: [ + that ] I have a suspicion that he only asked me out because my brother persuaded him to. |
