“Would you mind + gerund” to ask for a request Would you mind giving me a raid to work Would you mind sending that mail for me? I need to send it ASAP The word “please” makes the request more polite and less direct.
How should polite requests be responded? There are many ways in which we can respond politely to a request... Positive answers: Formal answers: I’d be happy/glad to___ my pleasure I can certainly do that for you. Yes/sure here you go Yes I can, yes definitely. Informal answers: Sure, okay, sure thing, uh-huh (means yes.) Negative answers: Formal answers: I’m sorry; I can’t. I’m busy right now. I’d like to, but I can’t. I’d love to, but I’m busy. I'm afraid I can't. Informal answers: I’m not sure; of course not!

Return these books to the library for me. Can you return these books to the library for me, please?
