Economically developed country (EDC) A rich country where people enjoy a comfortable standard of living.
Natural disaster A disaster caused by nature, e.g. earthquake, volcanoes.
Civil war A war fought against a country's government by people living within that country.
Corruption Dishonesty that usually leads to the accumulation of wealth.
Climate The regular weather conditions of an area.
World trade Different countries buying and selling goods from/ to each other.
Global interdependence Where different countries in the world are dependent upon each other for trade and survival.
Justice Bringing about what is right and fair according to the law, or making up for what has been done wrong.
Stewardship The idea that believers have a duty to look after the environment on behalf of God.
Compassion A feeling of pity that makes one want to help.
Religious organisation An organisation on religious principles, usually set up by one particular religion.
Voluntary service A person chooses to work with the poor without being paid.
Unfair trade Trade where the producers are exploited by the buyers.
Fair trade A system of trading that ensures fair prices for produce from LEDCs.
Emergency aid Immediate assistance to deal with the aftermath of a disaster.
Sustainable development People are helped to developed their skills and learn new which they can use again.
Long-term aid Assistance given to a poor country possibly over a long period of time that has lasting effect.
