Treaty of Saint Germain Austria - 10 Sept 1919 1. Had to accept break-up of Austro-Hungarian Empire. 2. Had to recognise independence of Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Yugoslavia. 3. Territory from Empire given to Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Poland, Romania and Italy. 4. Union between Austria and Hungary was forbidden
Treaty of Trianon Hungary - 2 June 1920 1. Had to accept break-up of Austro-Hungarian Empire. 2. Had to recognise independence of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. 3. Territory from Empire given to Romania, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.
Treaty of Neuilly Bulgaria - 27 November 1919 1. Had to recognise independence of Yugoslavia. 2. Lost territory to Greece, Romania and Yugoslavia.
Treaty of Sevres Turkey - 10 Aug 1920 1. Had to accept independence of Kingdom of Hejaz and Armenia. 2. Lost provinces in Middle East to Britain and France. 3. Lost territory to Greece and Italy. 4. Dardanelles Strait to become international waterway.
Treaty of Lausanne Turkey - 24 July 1923 1. Turkey confirmed loss of provinces in Middle East. 2. Turkey received back most of European territory. 3. Dardanelles Strait returned to Turkish sovereignty. 4. Restriction on army removed. 5. Turkey didn't have to pay reparations.
Effects of Treaty of Saint Germain on Austria . Now a small landlocked country surrounded by hostile states. . Resented not being able to unite with Germany and that three mil. Sudeten Germans were under Czech rule - violation of principle of self-dertemination.
Effects of Treaty of Trianon on Hungary . Lost over 70% of territory and one third of population. . Was deprived of seaports and landlocked.
Effects of Treaty of Neuilly on Bulgaria . Brought end to 40yr struggle for unification of Bulgarian-populated territories. .
E . Sparked nationalist movement led by Mustapha Kemal. . Kemal challenged peace treaty by force by driving out Greeks from Smyrna. Led to renegotiated treaty.
