Description

Phrasal verbs are idiomatic expressions, combining verbs and prepositions to make new verbs whose meaning is often not obvious from the dictionary definitions of the individual words. They are widely used in both written and spoken English, and new ones are formed all the time as they are a flexible way of creating new terms

how far a que distancia, quão longe, ate onde *How far is it to the supermarket?
come along ir junto *We’re going to the zoo. Do you want to come along?
in a row seguido (um atras do outro), subsequente: *He’s just won the race for the fifth year in a row.
How come? por quê? (used to ask why something has happened) *How come you didn’t go to the party?
screw up estragar: *you screwed up everything *I reckon I screwed the chemistry exam up totally.
turn off desligar: *We turned off the lights before anyone could see us. *How do you turn the computer off?
turn down (1) baixar volume: *Your radio is driving me crazy! Please turn it down.
turn down (2) rejeitar, recusar: *He applied for a promotion twice this year, but he was turned down both times.
look forward esperar fazer algo (ansiosamente) *I’m really looking forward to seeing him.
