Question Answer
Examples: In the atom - electrons orbiting the nucleus Hands on a clock face Car's wheels The Earth around the sun We know that the body moving in a circular path requires a force; that force acts towards the centre of the circular path - this is called the centripetal force
Although the speed of an object moving in a circle may be constant, its velocity isn't At each point on the circular path the direction of the motion is different
If its velocity changes it is accelerating, so a force is needed to produce the acceleration If a string going in a circular path with a ball on the end breaks, the ball will travel in a straight line at a constant velocity
