What does counting cells mean? | They count either pathogen cells or white blood cells responding to the pathogen (in blood) |
What is gram staining? | They stain bacteria w/ a dye to distinguish between those that are gram positive & negative. |
Why do scientists grow pathogens in a cell culture. | They grow them in controlled condition in a lab so there is enough to provide samples for diagnostic tests. |
What is an example of a growth medium? | Agar jelly. |
How does isolation & re-infection prove the cause of a disease? | By isolating a particular pathogen & growing it we can re infect a healthy plant. If the same symptoms occur, we can be confident the pathogen caused the disease. |
What is a gene probe? | A short section of single-standard DNA called. |
