Question Answer
Name the three subatomic particles of an atom. proton, neutron and electron
Where are protons found in an atom? protons are found in the nucleus of the atom
Where are electrons found in an atom? electrons are found in the shells
Where are neutrons found in an atom? Neutrons are found in the neucleus of the atom
What is the mass of a neutron? the mass of a neutron is 1
what is the mass of an electron? the mass of an electron is 1/2000
What is the mass of a proton the mass of a proton is +1
What is the charge on an electron? Electrons have a negative charge (-1)
What is the charge on a proton Protons have a positive charge (+!)
What is the charge on a neutron? Neutrons are neutral and have no charge (0)
Which group are these elements found in and how can you tell? They are all in group 1 because they have one electron in the outer shell.
Which group are these elements found n ? They are found in group 0 because the full outer shell is full.
which group and period is this element found? This element is found in group 4 (it has 4 electrons in the outer shell) and period 2 (it has 2 shells.
Which group and period is sodium found it? It is in group 1 ( it has one electron in the outer shell). It is in period 3 ( it has 3 shells).
What is the name of the top number? What does it show? The top number is called the ATOMIC MASS. It shows that lithium has 7 protons AND neutrons in the nucleus.
What is the name given the bottom number? What does it show? The bottom number is the ATOMIC NUMBER. It shows the number of PROTONS in an atom.
