Who was Samuel De Champlain? He was a French Explorer who was sent out by the king to explore and find new land. He ended up founding New France in 1608. It was important because, every country was trying to find new land.
Who was Jean Talon? He was the intendant of New France. The same year became the intendant 0f New France and Acadia. He encourage exploration and received the title Count D' Orsain in 1674. He also set up the Files du Roi and increased France's wealth.
Who was Francois de Laval? He was given the task to organize all aspects of the church. In 1674 he was appointed first bishop. He also created seminaries and parishes. It was important because, the king passed the law that only Roman Catholics could go to New France, and they needed somewhere to practise their religion.
Who was Louis de Buade, Comte de Frontenac? He was Born May 22, 1622. He also, served in the french armies during the thirty Years of war.
When and how was New France discovered? The King of New France -- Louis XlV sent explorers to search for new land. European explorers discovered the “New World” where resources such as the beaver were abundant, and shipped the back to Europe to Sell. He discovered in 608 by Samuel de Champlain.
Who is King Louis XIV? What is his connection to the establishment of New France? King Louis XlV knew that New France was low in resources so, he sent explorers to search for land that were abundant in the resources; animal, gold, etc. Full name; Louis Dieudonne -- the King of France

What were the roles of each member/group of the civil hierarchy? KING--Direct control over the government in New France VICEROY--Person who runs colony on behalf of the King MINISTER OF THE NAVY--Administered Canada during french colony SOVEREIGN COUNCIL--Made rules about day to day life GOVERNOR OF NEW FRANCE--Governed the Colonies of New France GOVERNORS OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC AND TROIS RIVIERES-- Govern their individual colony on behalf of the governor INTENDENT--Controlled the colony’s entire civil administration INTENDANTS REPRESENTATIVES--Made sure laws and rules were obeyed CAPTAIN OF THE MILITIA--Serves in naval ports and colonies CITIZENS--Were lower class people who had less money and fortune
Why was Laval’s work so important in spreading the influence of the Roman Catholic Church? Without him there would be no Roman Catholic Churches. He created seminaries(schools that trained men to be priests) and parishes(local churches). Parishes influenced R.C.C. to become dominant in New France. People who practice that religion had the ability to do so A lot of people in modern day Canada also practice that religion thanks to him

What did the census of 1666 show about the percentages of males and females in New France? How do you think this male-female breakdown of the population would have affected life in New France at that time? It showed that males outnumbered females by 63.3 to 36.7 almost a 2:1 ratio. There was a shortage of young women and young men were looking for wives. Without women there was a lack of population growth. This is when the filles du roi (kings daughters) come into play. Having children and extending and expanding the land so it would give them the opportunity to expand population growth.
What were some of the trade occupations of the people in New France? Some of the trade occupations for people in New France were: Soldiers Carpenters Bakers Butchers
Explain how New France was a mix of different types of people. New France was made up of many people from different families and of different wealth. The lowest of the scale were citizens--they had to work very hard for their income. The king was at the top--he came from a wealthy family and was put into the job. The citizen were criminals, indentured servants, and slaves.
Describe the role of women in New France. Women in New france did the home-work; Farming Cooking Cleaning Nurturing The took care of the family and house while the men were gone.
In what ways were women able to become more independent? Took on all of the home responsibilities Spent most of their time on their own Without easy access to stores, they had to make everything from the materials they had around. They had a level of independence that was not available in the British colonies or in France.

Convert to change religions-the clergy tried to get the First Nations people to change their religion and convert to Christianity

Seigneurs the owner of the land plots in New France, they were often wealthy men of nobility back in France

Coureurs de boi ”runner of the woods” were men who made their careers as fur traders in the forests of New France
Filles de roi ”daughters of the kings” were single and/or orphaned women in France who were sent to New France to marry and start families to help populate the colony
