Pop Mail server downloads the email to the computer, then deleted off the server. Means that emails can be read offline
IMAP More recent than POP. Used to retrieve email from mail servers. It is read on the mail server. Emails are stored on server and can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection
SMTP Part of TCP/IP protocol and used to send email between systems. Used when email is sent from the senders email client to the sender's email server
Http Protocol of World wide web. Asks the web server to send files needed to show the webpage
HTTPS Used when sending confidential info over the internet. The Data is encrypted so it cannot be read by anyone other than the intended recipient
FTP Allows the transfer of files between computers
IP The individual number given to a network, It is like an address
MAC Adress the individual number given to each device, it is unique to that device
TCP enables two hosts to establish a connection and exchange streams of data
