Atomic Structure | Atoms consist of a nucleus and a cloud of electrons that move around it. The nucleus contains protons and neutrons. |
Proton (+) | It is a positively charged particle. |
Neutron | It is a neutral particle. It is not charged. |
Electron | It is a negatively charged particle. |
Proton Number / Atomic Number | You can identify an atom by the number of protons it has. |
Electron Number | Every atom number has an equal amount of protons and electrons. So they do not have charge. |
Nucleon Number | A nucleon is a product of protons and neutrons. The total number of protons of and neutrons in the nucleus is called its nucleon number (mass number). |
