Question | Answer |
What is matter? | Matter is any object that takes up a space and has mass. Matter is everything around us. |
What is mass? | Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Mass is a measure of the matter in an object |
What are the 3 states of matter? | Solid Liquid Gas |
What is kinetic energy? | Kinetic Energy is energy in motion. Kinetic energy is the energy an object has due to its motion. As long as an object is moving at the same velocity, it will maintain the same kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of an object is calculated from the velocity and the mass of the object. |
What is solid - Gas? | Sublimation (heat added) |
Gas - Solid? | Deposition (heat lost) |
Gas - Liquid? | Condensation (Heat lost) |
Liquid - Gas? | Boiling/evaporating |
Liquid - Solid? | Melting (heat added) |
Solid - liquid? | Freezing (heat lost) |
What is filtration? | The filtration process is generally used to separate a suspension mixture where small solid particles are suspended in liquid or air. |
Soluble? | A substance which is able to be dissolved. |
Insoluble? | A substance which cannot be dissolved. |
Solute? | The solid or liquid which is dissolved. |
Solvent? | The liquid which the solute is dissolved into. |
Solution? | Forms when a solute dissolves into a solvent. |
3 main points of kinetic theory? | - No energy is gained or lost when molecules collide. - The molecules in a gas take up a negligible (able to be ignored) amount of space in relation to the container they occupy. - The molecules are in constant, linear motion. |
How do crystals form? | Crystals form because the solid particles are arranged in a regular pattern. This regular pattern is then repeated several times. |
