Have you ever put your face in front of a baby and the baby mimicked your expressions? “It’s an example of our built-in, wired-into-the-brain capacity for imitation." Figure 1.
"The front of the brain contains an area called the premotor cortex. The premotor cortex makes plans to move.” Figure 2. Watching other people's actions can cause specific neurons to fire as though you were performing the action yourself. These neurons are called Mirror Neurons.
Mirror neurons - are a subset of neurons that fire both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. Figure 3. “Mirror Neurons are the starting point of empathy.” They are the way we empathize with others.
