What is contraception? Contraception includes a variety of artificial ways to prevent pregnancy during sexual intercourse.
What does the contraceptive pill do? Stop the egg being released.
Describe the function of the uterus, ovaries, vagina and cervix. Ovaries: Contain egg cells, one is released per month. Uterus (womb): Where the baby develops. Cervix: Ring of muscle at the entrance of the Uterus, holds the baby in place. Vagina: Receives the sperm during sexual intercourse.
What is the function of the placenta and amniotic fluid? Placenta: Substances pass between the mothers blood and the fetus's blood. It acts as a barrier to protect the fetus from infection. Amniotic fluid (fluid sac): acts as a shock absorber, protecting the fetus from any bumps.
Describe the female menstrual cycle.
Compare condoms and the contraceptive pill. Condoms: Thin layer of latex that fits over an erect penis. It prevents sperm being released into the woman's vagina. The pill: A pill the female must take in order for it to work. It contains hormones that prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation.
Compare the structure of wind and insect pollinated plants.
