Describe the function of the uterus, ovaries, vagina and cervix. | Ovaries: Contain egg cells, one is released per month. Uterus (womb): Where the baby develops. Cervix: Ring of muscle at the entrance of the Uterus, holds the baby in place. Vagina: Receives the sperm during sexual intercourse. |
What is the function of the placenta and amniotic fluid? | Placenta: Substances pass between the mothers blood and the fetus's blood. It acts as a barrier to protect the fetus from infection. Amniotic fluid (fluid sac): acts as a shock absorber, protecting the fetus from any bumps. |
Describe the female menstrual cycle. | |
Compare condoms and the contraceptive pill. | Condoms: Thin layer of latex that fits over an erect penis. It prevents sperm being released into the woman's vagina. The pill: A pill the female must take in order for it to work. It contains hormones that prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation. |
