What is the circulation system? It is your body's transport system
What are its functions? 1-Carries nutrients & oxygen for respiration 2-Removes carbon dioxide 3-Transports other wastes products 4-Distributes heat around the body
What does it consist of? Your heart, blood vessels, and blood
What are the 3 types of blood vessels in your body? Arteries, capillaries and veins
What are the arteries? They are blood vessels that carry blood from the heart
Why do arteries have tough walls? So they can be able to withstand the pressure of when the heart pumps the blood into the arteries under pressure.
What are capillaries? The finest piece of a artery
How thick are their walls? One cell thick
Why are they so thin? So dissolved materials can pass through
What do veins do? They carry blood back to the heart
Why are the veins walls not like the arteries? Because the pressure of the heartbeat is lost as the blood flows through the arrow capillaries
How do the bruises form? They form when the tiny capillaries near your skin burst and blood leaks into the surrounding tissue
How big is our heart? About the size of our fists
Where is it located? In the middle of your chest, behind the breastbone
Do cardiac muscles get tired? No, they are always pumping
What are the two halves separated by? A thick wall called spectrum
What are the three main phases of a heartbeat? The 2 atria's contract, pushing blood down into the ventricles The ventricles contract, forcing blood out of the heart to the body and lung The heart muscles relax and the atria fill with blood
Where are red blood cells made? They are made in the bone marrow and the ribs
What chemical do they contain? Haemoglobin
What does it do? Gives the red blood cell its colour
What are white blood cells? They a bigger than the red blood cells and are part of the immune system
What are platelets? They are broken bits of cells that allow blood to clot.
What is plasma? Plasma is a clear yellowish liquid that is 90% water and 10% other dissolved materials
