Question Answer
Mitochondria Produces energy for the cell. Made of a double folded membrane.
Nucleus Controls cellular activity. Think of it as a control centre. A large organelle that contains genes.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Two types: 1)Smooth- doesn't contain ribosomes. Transports substances. Produces lipids. 2)Rough- contain ribosomes. Found near the Nucleus. Transports protein to the Golgi body
Ribosomes Produce protein. Found on the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
Cell Membrane Keeps all the organelles together. Controls what enters and exits the cell. Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.
Cell Wall ONLY found in PLANTS. Provides protection and support for the organelles. Shapes cells.
Golgi Apparatus (Bodies) Changes, stores and distributes substances created by the endoplasmic reticulum.
Vacuole Stores water and other substances. In plant cells it tends to be one large vacuole, and several small ones in animal cells. They also provide some support/structure to the cell.
Chloroplast ONLY found in PLANT cells. The area in which most cellular activity occurs due to photosynthesis. Tends to be green in colour when viewed under an electron microscope without any dye.
Lysosomes Help break down and destroy damaged cells.
