Question Answer
UK TRIBAL GROUPS - Different Target Audiences
Overall, we wanted to aim our production to a number of different people/ teenagers Specifically as thrillers are appealing to a large variety of audiences. For example, the diagram on the next card shows the different types of teenagers in the UK. These Include the different definitions with branches coming off for even more description... . Mainstream . Leading Edge . Urban . Aspirant . Alternative
Mainstream - most of the UK teenagers are classed as mainstream. ( Specifically the younger teenagers, as they have yet not found their 'real identity' ) Mainstream is the most simple to understand and aim a production towards. Popular cultural media is very suited towards these, meaning they are laid back with their likes and interests. . . . . . . . . . . Being one of our main audiences, it's important to note the seven branches that are associated with mainstream. Subgroups Include: . Blingers . Boy racers . Chavs . Fan girls . Sport junkies . Townies . . . . . . . Although these aren't the official definitions for people, parts of our audience can be classed into this.
Leading Edge "The here & now" A group seen as highly influential for everyone else. They live for the popular here and now, which they constantly move onto the next interesting thing they find. . . . . . . Subgroups include: . Creatives . DIYers . Tumblr Kids ( a picture blog ) . Indie Scenesters . . . . . . . They'd be interested into our thriller as it has a different tone from others, due to the conventions aimed towards teenagers. They'd be the audience that first find out about our production, spreading it onto the other tribes.
Urban "Confident Style Makers" This group is known for thriving for the most popular things, including fashion and music as well as media. . . . . . . . Subgroups include: . Stylers . Trackies . Get paid crew . . . . . . . This audience would fit into ours as thrillers are always popular within the box office, meaning they'd want to be one of the first to see it and talk about it. Being the most confident group, the message of our production would get around fast to all the teenage groups.
Aspirant "Living for the moment, they know the look, music and lifestyle they want" The aspirant group are most known for paying the most for their desired needs, specifically in social events. Right time. Right place. Right people. . . . . . . Subgroups include: . Trendies . Rahs . New casuals . . . . . . . Our production would be able to be more appealing to these if we were aiming to a niche audience. However, we do aim towards these as they are social butterflies, meaning they will go to the cinema and easily spend money.
Alternatives "Driven by the need set themselves apart from the mainstream groups" This group is the opposite to the mainstream, as they want an authentic lifestyle. Meaning the reject the mainstream ideas. . . . . . . Subgroups include: . Young Alts . Skaters . Emo/scene . Hardcore . Real gamers . Nerds . . . . . . . I feel that our production would still be aimed towards this group, even though they oppose the mainstream likes. This is purely due to the genre of thriller, as this group tend to prefer horror and thriller. However, they do prefer more niche styled films.
