Question Answer
AO1 - Evolutionary explanation for food preferences Our ancestors were hunt gatherers which meant that they had to go out and hunt for food. As a result, it is important to have food which gives us energy and the only food that was available at that time was animal and plant. Therefore, preferences for fatty food was adaptive in the EEA condition.
AO1 - Evolutionary - Decline in the quality of plant food - Decline in plant food caused by receding forest. - Meat diet, which is dense in calories provided the catalyst for the growth of the brain
AO2 - Evolutionary explanation for food preferences Milton - unlikely to get enough nutrients just from plant food; meat was the only source of energy and brain wouldn't be intelligent without enough nutrients.
AO2 - Cordain et al ancestors got most of the calories from plant.
Abrams Agrees with Milton that plants do not have all the nutrients required for a human to survive
Gibson and Wardle Did a study to test which fruit or vegetable would be preferred by 4-5 year old. Found that the children preferred banana and potato, suggesting that it is not about which is familiar, or which gives most protein but instead how dense it is in calories.
A02 - Children used Cannot be generalised to other age group as the sample is biased. This means, this evidence provided isn't effective enough to apply it universally and also, as they are still young, they may not understand or know what they are choosing, and may have chosen something in random - may not reflect true picture.
+ A02 innate preferences and level of obesity it explains innate preferences and current levels of obesity. Preferences for food which is high n calories may lead to obesity.
Deterministic. other reasons not look at at such as social drives, thoughts and emotions, mood, social learning etc...
