Child Development Definition Child development involves the period of growth from birth into adulthood. Every child develops at a different rate because they are unique and therefore will develop at their own pace. Even though they differ in rate they will go through the same general sequence as every child will learn to crawl before they walk. Child development consists of milestones which involves 5 key areas of development. Physicval, intellectual, language, emotional and social developments. These all interlink with one another meaning they are hollistic. Different areas of development will be influenced by how well developed another area of development is. Milestones are considered steps which show a child is developing and is why they are used to monitor progress. A child with ASN however may take longer progressing forward in their development thus why it should be remembered the guidelines milestones provide are for the normative range.
2 Key Cognitive Developments from age groups 0-3 and 8-12 0-3: The time where their brain is most active as they learn to use all their senses and then construct theories to then put them into practice such as gravity and how things go in and out. 8-12: Can identify hobbies and which ones grab their interest which they can stick to for a long amount of time developing on that key skill.
2 Key Social and Emotional Developments from age groups 3-5 and 12-16 3-5: Is able to understand the concept of sharing and thus take part in cooperative play knowing that everyone gets a turn. 12-16: Emotions become highly intensified causing conflict, but independence from family and friends.
2 Key Language Developments from age groups 5-8 and 0-3 5-8: Able to form sentences correctly with no stutter. Has a wide range of vocabulary and speaks fluently being able to converse as well as knowing to listen. 0-3: Able to listen to words, but not speak. Instead uses different cries for different needs that only mothers can distinguish.
2 Key Physical Developments from age groups 8-12 and 3-5 8-12: 2nd growth spurt to take place since birth. Puberty consists of more physical development in sexual regions and an increase in hormones to regulate growth. 3-5: Able to use pincer grip to hold a pencil in a adult fashion and gain control over it.
2 Key Developments from age group 12-16 Spiritual: Can now think from all perspectives and decide whether they believe in a belief or if god is present. They are able to justify their reason as a matter opinion and can make uyp their own mind without the influence of others. Language: Can use a variety of terms and expressions to hold a debate with their own opinion and present them with a reasonal thorough explanation.
