What did A. Philip Randolph do and what happened as a result? Campaigned for an end to segregation in the armed forces. Executive Order 8802 was passed to end racism in employment.
When were the NAACP formed? 1909
What was the "cycle of selling" 1929 Rumours spread that people who had invested heavily such as Joseph Kennedy were selling. Everyone sold. 16 million shares sold in 1 day and US economy lost $30 billion.
What effect did tax reductions have on American families and what impact did this have on the US economy? 60% were living on less than $2000 per year and 80% had no savings. They couldn't afford the goods on which the boom was based, leading to under consumption.
What fraction of banks were under the authority of the Federal Reserve Board because of de-regulation and what did this result in? 1/3 of banks. 100s of self-regulated banks.

What did Booth and Rowntree's report find out? Poverty was a nationwide issue. 30% of the population were in poverty and often it was not their fault.
Why was Britain's national security a worry? For the Boer war in 1889, 25% of volunteers were rejected on medical grounds. 80% were in Manchester alone. Could Britain defend herself in the event of a major conflict?
What proof is there that the Labour Party were a threat to the votes of the Liberal Party? In 1907 the Liberals lost 3 seats in by-elections to Labour.
When was the Pensions Act passed and what did it do? 1908. Provided pensions of 5 shillings per week for over 70s.
What Acts were passed for the young? 1900s Education Acts- medical inspections and free school meals. Children's Charter- introduced borstals.
What did the Liberal Reforms do for the sick? 1911 Insurance Act- set up scheme that worker, employer and government could pay into and worker could receive medical attention if they get sick.
What was introduced to help the unemployed and was it successful? 1909 Labour Exchange Act- by 1912 there were 412 Labour Exchanges.

What Acts were passed which made legal changes to women's rights? Married Women's Property Acts of 1870 and 1884 meant that a married woman had the same right to her property as an unmarried woman.
