What is the meaning of ICT? ICT refers to Information Communication Technology
What is Data? Data refers to meaningless, unprocessed facts and figures, which is formed by using a combination of alphabetical and numerical characters.
What are the two types of Data? 1. Quantitative Data 2. Qualitative Data
What is Quantitative Data? Data Which can be measured (deals with Numbers) Ex :- length, height, area, cost, temperature, no.of members, ages, etc.
What is Qualitative Data? Data which cannot be measured but observe(deals with descriptions) Ex:- colors, textures, tastes, beauty, appearance, etc.
What is Information? Information refers to processed data which is converted to meaningful and useful to the user.
What is processing? Converting Data to Information is called Processing.
What are some health problems to do with ICT? Backache Repetitive strain injury (RSI) Eye strain Stress
What are some factors that affect stress? Pace of work Worry about using new tech Frustrating software Losing work, viruses and tech problems
What are some ways to prevent back ache? Using an adjustable ergonomic chair Checking chair adjustment so that it is right sit up straight in chair Line up screen properley
What are some ways to prevent RSI? Adjust chair to correct seating position Make sure there is enough space to work comfortably Use a document holder Use ergonomic keyboards/mice use a wrist rest Keep wrists straight
What are some ways to prevent Eye strain? Keep the screen clean use appropriate lighting and blinds to avoid glare take regular breaks have regular eye tests ensure you are not sitting too near the screen
what are some input methods fora computer? mouse keyboard voice recognition scanning through printers USB connections (cameras etc.) webcams joystick touch pad
What are some specialist input devices? magnetic strip recognition touch screens bar code recognition
what are some high speed input devices? optical mark recgognition (OMR) optical character recognition (OCR)
what is optical mark recognition? a feature machines like optical mark readers have that can read marks on a sheet at very high speed. this is often used to mark multiple choice questions.
what is optical character recognition and what is it used for? optical character recognition is a way of scanning words and letting machines read them to be processed. used in scanners.
