What are the core symptoms of PMR? | Bilateral shoulder and/or pelvic girdle pain; may radiate to elbow/knees. Stiffness lasting >=45 mins in the morning/after periods of rest Pain which is worse with movement and interferes with sleep |
What are additional features of PMR? | - Systemic symptoms - low grade fever, anorexia, weight loss and depression - Bilateral upper arm tenderness - Peripheral MSK signs e.g. carpal tunnel, asymmetrical peripheral arthritis (predominately affecting the knees and wrists) - Swelling with pitting oedema of hands, wrists, feet and ankles |
What is the initial management of PMR? | Oral prednisolone 15mg daily - review response after 1 week and dose after 3-4 weeks. |
What condition is often associated with PMR? | Giant cell/temporal arteritis |
