Prosodic features | These are features that appear when we put sounds together in connected speech. |

Back-Channeling | This is a ay of showing a speaker that you are following what they are saying. E.g. 'Mmm, yeah, really?' |

Chaining | A series of things of the same type that form a connected line. |
Divergence | Where we make our language different to show we do not like a person. |
Contraction | A contraction is a shortened version of the written and spoken forms of a word, syllable, or word group, created by omission of internal letters. E.g. Can't instead of cannot |
Idiolect | The speech habits particular to a specific person. |
Phatic | Relating to language used for general purposes of social interaction. E.g. 'How are you? The weather is nice.' |
Taboo language | A descriptive term for words, objects, actions or people that are forbidden by a group/culture. |
Repair | In conversational analysis, the process by which a speaker recognises speech error and repeats what has been said with some sort of correction. |
