The facts Major minority ethnic groups (Afro-Caribbean/Indian/Bangladeshi) are more religious than the white ethnic majority. They share some similarities: Young people are less religious Women are less religious
Pentacostalism It is a christian denomination where the congregation are predominantly black. It places an emphasis on experience and services are very vibrant and family centered. E..g. Prophet Mboro or Jesus Army
Asian Religious Groups Those who came from the Caribbean already shared the dominant christian beliefs, whereas those from Pakistan etc had non-christian backgrounds and so had to establish their own temples and communties. Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism
Cultural Defense Mirza suggests that Muslims in the UK feel excluded from mainstream society which creates hostility between religions. This then drives young muslims further into embracing an Islamic identity as they are increasingly reminded of their difference. (Bruce)
Tradition Second generation members of ethnic groups appear to be less religious(Modood) Second generation Asians said that they only followed their family's faith in fear of criticism. They wish to interpret their religious traditions more flexibly(Hijab) Some people only follow a religion because it was how their family socialised them, not because they personally believed
