Question | Answer |
What is the function of the red blood cell? Do they have a Nucleus? | The red blood cells doesn’t have a nucleus so they have more space to carry hemoglobin. Since the red blood cells doesn’t have a nucleus it can’t repair itself and once is damaged it will be removed from the body, some parts can be reused in the body. |
What is ATP? Is oxygen needed for the cell to produce ATP? | Adenosine Triphosphate, the energy currency of the body. Oxygen is needed for the cell to produce energy |
What is the function of Neuron, Skeletal Muscell cells, Sperm and Fat Cell? | Communication Movement Reproduction Energy and cushioning |
What are organelles? | are the machinery that occupy the plasma membrane. |
What is this and what is it function? | Mitochondria: Produces energy for the cell, the powerhouse of the cell. They have 2 membrane highly folded to increase the surface area and produce more ATP. ( Oxygen needed). Is also the site for Aerobic respiration |
What is the formula for aerobic respiration?
What are they and what are their function? | Ribosomes: is the protein worker of a factory. (sites for protein synsthesis) Free ribosomes can be floating at the cytosol and they will produce proteins that will be used in that cell. Attached to the rough ER and their proteins will be exported into the plasma membrane or other organelles. |
Flattened membrane sacs that are continus from the nucleus membrane to the cell. What am I? | Endoplasmic reticulum - ER (are like factories in a city) |
Talk about the Rough ER. | Rough ER (covered in ribosomes) where proteins made and they can be: Send to the plasma membrane. Exported from the cell ex: enzymes and hormones. The last destination is it can be incorporate into other organelles |
Talk abour the Smooth ER | it produces phospholipids, fats and steroids and those are used to Make new plasma membrane or hormones like oestrogen and testosterone found in ovaries and testes. In the liver cells, breaks down alcohol and drugs and also release glucose in blood from glycogen stores. In the Skeletal and Cardiac Muscle cells the smooth ER will store calcium needed for muscle contraction |
Golgi Complex is continually being formed and broken down. It's function is to: Concentrate and packages the products of the ER into vesicles Modifeis the products by adding Carbs or fats. "Tags"products for export
Who am I and what is my function? Tip: I'm known as the "suicide sacs" | The "police of the cell. Vesicles containing enzymes formed by the rough ER. I break down old organelles for recycling. I break down harmfull substances entering the cell. |
What are the overall roles of the cytoskeleton? | Cytoskeleton provides structure, strenght and movement to the cell |
What are the functions of: a) Mucrofilaments b) Intermediate filament c) Microtubule | a) They help the cell mantain structure, shape and movement. b) They work like anchors to keep things in place, they also resist any tension in the cell c) They are like infrastucture and roads, all the organelles in the cells hang of the microtubules. |
What is the structure of the Microvilli and its function? | Finger-like projections coming out of the cell. Their main function is to increase surface area for more absorbtion of nutrients. They are found in the cells lining small intestine, kidney tubules |
What is the structure and function of the Cilia? | They are hair-like extensions and their function is to move substances across a cell surface. Ex:They move and sweep mucus with trapped dust away from the lungs |
What is the structure and function of the flagella? | They are long and usually singular. Their main function is the movement. Eg: The whip-like tail of a sperm that helps it to swim. |
