ENTITY An entity is an person, place, thing or concept about which data ca be collected for example employee, house or car.
DATA INTEGRITY Data integrity refers to the accuracy and consistency (validity) of data. Compromised or inaccurate data would be of no use so its important to ensure that data is valid.
VALIDATION This refers to the format of the data. You can set a validation rule such as the data entered must be text, or numerals or of a certain length.
VERIFICATION This refers to the data being true to real life. This checks that the data being input to the database is the same as reality. For example in the age category the validation of the data type would ensure a number was entered, but if a number was entered it would be unverified.
FIELD A field in a record that holds unique data which can identify that record from all the other records in the file or database. Account number, product code and customer name are typical key fields.
RECORD Sometimes called a "row" is a group of fields within a table that are relevant to a specific entity.
DATA SECURITY Data security means protecting data, such as a database, from destructive forces and from the unwanted actions of unauthorized users.
