Solution | A mixture of two or more substances. |
Solvent | The substance that the solid dissolves in. |
Solute | The substance that dissolves. |
Clear | When you can see through the solution (transparent). |
Colourless | A solution that is of no colour. |

Dissolving | This is when a solid (e.g. salt) is added to water and the solid particles fill the spaces between the water particles; they mix with the water. |
Mixture | This is when two or more substances are mixed up but not chemically joined. They can easily be separated. |
Suspension | A suspension is a mixture that is opaque. It can be coloured. |
Filtration | This is where you filter a suspension through a filter, leaving the residue (the solute particles) behind in the filter, with the filtrate (the substance being filtered) being separated from it. |
Evaporating | This is when you heat the water/substance from the solution, to get the solute back. |
