Question Answer
1.4.U1 Membrane Transport Particles Move across membranes by simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis and active transport. 1.Simple Diffusion- When solutes diffuse through the lipid bilayer passively to get to the lower concentration gradient 2.Facilitated diffusion- Diffusion through transport proteins; helps particles pass through the membrane through from higher concentration to lower concentration 3.Osmosis- Net movement of water particles freely in one direction to the lower concentration gradient 4. Active transport- Movement through the transport requiring energy to move to the higher concentration gradient
1.4.U2 Membrane Transport The fluidity of membranes allows materials to be taken into cells by endocytosis or released by exocytosis 1. Endocytosis- The vesicle is formed on the inside of the plasma membrane. It contains material that was outside the cell, so this is a method of taking material into the cell. 2. Excotytosis- If a vesicle fuses with the plasma membrane, the contents are then outside the membrane and therefore outside the cell.
1.4 U3 Membrane Transport Vesicles move materials within cells 1. A small sac of membrane with a droplet of fluid inside, are spherical, normally present in eukaryotic cells, and are used to move materials around inside cells.
