What is society? A social construction.
Definition of norm? Something that is seen as usual, typical or standard. Accepted or share values within a society.
Definition of values? The regard that something is held to deserve. The importance, worth of something- meaningful.
Definition of roles? A part you play in society.
Definition of status? Relative social or professional position.
Definition of attitudes? A settled way of thinking or feeling about something or someone.
Definition of mores? Manners- customs and norms that are acceptable.
Definition of rules? One of a set of explicit or understood regulations that everyone abides by.
Definition of consumerism? The need to buy materialistic goods.
Definition of meritocracy? Working hard to get to where you want to be.
Definition of nepotism? Inherit your power.
Definition of matriarchal? Female dominant- women run society.
Definition of patriarchal? Male dominant- male run society
What is egalitarian society? A society that is equal.
Definition of individualistic? Someone who is more to do with themselves.
Definition of collectivist? Someone who looks out for the greater good.
Definition of socialisation? The process through we learn to fit into society. Learn norms and rules of soceity and patters on our culture.
Bourgeoisie? Rich and powerful
Ideological? Tool- way of brainwashing you.
Definition of ascription? Jobs based on family profession.
Primary socialisation? The socialisation of babies and young children which primarily occurs within family- Parents.
Secondary socialisation? The socialisation of children by their peers and by institutions such as school- media, school, culture, religion.
