what are some criticisms of the muller-lyer illusion? not cross-cultural -- doesn't work on ppl who live in natural environments instead of man-made rectangular buildings
why do paradoxical figures occur? consequences of trying to represent 3D objects in 2D drawings. Our mind tries to perceive 3D shape but struggles to do so seamlessly
example of fictions kaniza triangle -- the one with no explicit lines or enclosed space to view a shape
what are the unreal shapes in the illusion called? subjective contours
what type of cues do we use for the ames room? monocular -- theres no binocular disparity
what is an explanation for theunresolved moon illusion? horizon perceived as further away -- so if moon is same size as when above, it must be larger due to emmert's law
