Question Answer
Bar Magnets Are permanent magnets, which means that there magnetism is there all the time. These magnets have a north pole and a south pole.
North and South Poles North Poles are attracted to South Poles South Poles will repel South Poles North Poles will repel North Poles
Ferromagnetic Materials that can be magnetized and are attracted to magnets.
Magnetic Domains Are regions within a ferromagnetic material that have a north pole and a south pole. In non-magnetized objects these are arranged randomly which cause the effect to cancel out. A magnetized object has it domains aligned.
Magnetic Fields Flow from the north pole to the south pole
Current and Magnetism Current creates a magnetic field
Right Hand Grip rule Direction of current = thumb Direction of magnetic field = fingers
Magnetic Field Strength Equation B = (K I) / d B - magnetic field strength (Tesla, T) I - current (amps, A) d - distance (metres, m) K - 2 x 10^-10 Tm/A
Solenoid Is a long wire winded into a coil and sometimes has an iron core. These produce a strong magnetic field and are typically used in electrical circuits due to their electromagnetic properties.
Right Hand Grip Rule for Solenoids Direction of Field/North = thumb Direction of current = fingers
