| Tracking Thread | Cheap, weak, cotton thread that can be removed without hurting fabric. few colors in gauge of 40 to 50. 50 good for light weight fabric only (weak). |
| Tracing Wheel and Paper | Carbon paper and wheel are used to transfer patterns to fabric. Good only for heavy materials as wheel is spiked. NOT for pale colors, thin cotton or glazed fabric. |
| Tailors Chalk | for temporary marking, white removes more easily than color |
| Beeswax | For waxing thread when sewing buttons |
| small scissors | cutting threads, trimming, snipping fabric |
| Buttonhole scissors | fitted with a screw to regulate the length of a hole slash |
| Pinking shears | zigzag edge for finished seams for heavy non-fraying fabric to prevent bulking |
| Seam ripper | Rip seams and buttonholes, sharp so use with care |
| Seam Gauge | use to mark widths for button and hems etc. make with cardboard |
| Pin cushion | wrist pin cushion is useful for fitting |
| Hem Marker | to mark hems level and parallel to the floor. some make a rim of chalk around the fabric others measure a point to pin |
| Dress forms | adjustable or fixed, plastic covered wire, cardboard or wood. Useful but not essential unless draping |
