Function of glucose An energy source for plants and animals. It is found in human blood.
Maltose An example of a dissaccharide.
Function of fructose It is an energy source found in fruit.
Galactose An example of a monosaccharide.
Function of sucrose Used in plants for the transport of carbohydrates from leaves to roots (cane sugar).
Cellulose Forms the cell walls of plants. Can be very long.
Glycogen A polysaccharide of glucose. It is used for energy storage in animals.
Starch (amylose) A polysaccharide molecule.
Fatty acids
Triglyceride A lipid which holds more energy per gram than a carbohydrate.
Ribose
Lactose A disaccharide. The main carbohydrate found in milk.
