What are the two types of digestion? Mechanical and Chemical
What is digestion? Process of breaking down food into a usable form and making nutrients available
What is mechanical digestion? When the food is broken into smaller pieces.
What is chemical digestion? When the large, complex substances in the food are broken down into simpler chemicals that the body can absorb.
What 4 types of teeth do we have? Incisors, Canines, Premolars and Molars.
What does the digestive system do? It makes food available in a form the body can use.
What does the circulatory system do? It carries the food and oxygen to cells where it is needed.
What does the excretory system do? It gets rid of wastes.
What does the skeletal system do? It supports the body enables it to move.
What is an oesophagus? It is a long, muscular tube that has the mouth at one end and the stomach at its other end.
What does the oesophagus do? The muscles of the oesophagus push the ball of food down the tube by contracting behind the ball.
What is peristalsis? When the muscles relax.
What is epiglottis? A flap of skin
What does the epiglottis do? Closes the windpipe as you swallow.
What are tissues made up of? Cells that carry out the same job are grouped together to form tissues.
What are organs made up of? A group of tissues grouped together form and organ.
What is an organ system made up of? Two or more organs that work together form an organ system.
What do incisors do? Incisors are the 4 pairs of teeth at the front and their job is to bite of pieces small enough to chew.
What do premolars and molars do? These teeth grind the food into smaller and smaller pieces as you chew.
