Question Answer
when a longitudinal wave passes through air, what happens to the air particles at a compression ? They are pushed closer together.
What type of wave can be produced on a stretched string ? Transverse, Mechanical waves
What is the speed of waves with a frequency of 5 Hz and a wavelength of 2 m ? 10 m/s
What is the unit of frequency ? Hertz, hz
What is the normal ? A kine drawn perpendicular to a reflecting surface
What size is the image in a plane mirror ? The same size as the object
Why does refraction takes place ? Because waves change speed when they cross a boundry
Why does light split up into different colours when it passes through a triangular prism ? Because different wavelengths of light are refracted by different amounts
Why don't we often observe the diffraction of light during everyday life ? Because the wavelength of light is very short
What sort of waves are diffracted ? All waves are diffracted
What is the range of frequencies that can be heard by the human ear ? 20 Hz to 20000 Hz (20 kHz)
What is the reflection of a sound called ? An echo
what happens to the pitch of a note as the frequency decreases ? A pitch decreases
Why do different instruments sound different when they play the same note ? The waveforms are different
