Question Answer
Physical Change Hamza Ahmed Year 8
What is physical change? A change where no new substance is formed
What are particles? The minute portion of matter
What is the particle model? A simplified representation of solids, liquids and gases
What are the points of the particle model?
How are particles shaped in solids? The particles are packed tightly together
How are particles shaped in liquids? They are packed loosely together
How are particles shaped in gases? They are not stuck to each other at all and move freely
Are particles able to move? Yes, they vibrate in ther positions where ever they are
What happens when the particles in solid and liquids are heated? The vibrations increase which causes the substance to expand
What happens when the particles in solids and liquids are cooled? The vibrations decrease which causes the substance to contract
How do the particles act in gases? They move around in the container they're in and hit the walls of the container
What happens when particles in gases are heated? The particles move around more frequently and hit the walls of the container with moreforce
What happens when particles in gases are cooled? The particles move around less frequently and hit the walls of the container with less force
What causes melting? Whe solids are heated enough that the vibrations become so energetic and they become liquids
What causes freezing? Whe liquids are cooled enough that the vibrations become slow and they become a solid
What causes evaporation? When a liquid is heated enough that the particles become unstuck and it becomes a gas
What causes condensation? When a gas is cooled enough that the particles come together and form a liquid
What is diffusion? Particles of 2 gases or 2 liquids mix without stirring
How do gas particles travel during diffusion? In a zig-zag fashion, each particle moves in a straight line untill it collides with another particle and changes direction
