What is motivation? | The desire to succeed, the desire to achieve something, inspired to do something. Motivation focuses the performer, improves concentration. Motivation pushes athletes to train harder |
What is tension? | Tension is related to excitement or suspense. This can be relayed between athlete and spectators and back again. |
What is nervousness? | Nervousness can add to the tension levels during an event. Nervousness affects the athlete physically, shaking and being feeling sick. Nervousness can relate to the occasion, age of the athlete, home or away event. |
What is stress? | It is the body's reaction to change that requires a physical (fatigue), mental (sleep deprivation) or emotional (family/friends) adjustment or response and this in turn can be linked to other factors in any sporting situation. |
What factors could affect the athletes stress levels? | The crowds reactions The level of competition The score Physical condition, injuries could affect stress levels. |
What is anxiety? | Feeling nervous or apprehensive or tense or worried. It can make you feel uneasy and apprehensive (fearful) both before and during an event. |

What is boredom? | The performer having little or no interest in the event. They lack concentration. Could be due to not being challenged or by having to continually repeat the same training activity. |
How can boredom be reduced? | Keep training fun, different, lively, challenging and relevant. |
