Give all 9 stages of the system life cycle in order | Definition, Investigation & Analysis, Design, Implementation, Testing, Installation, Documentation, Evaluation, Maintenance |
What is the definition stage for? | Identifying the problem, what the system does and how it should work -- feasibility study |
What is done in the investigation and analysis stage? | The system is investigated to provide details of the problem, current methods used. A requirements specification is produced. |
What is done in the design stage? | Design specification is made. Follows req. spec. (Test plan, data capture, input and output methods, data dictionary, project plan, processes) |
What is done in the implementation stage? | The system is created, prototyping & feedback |
What is done in the testing stage? | Follows the test plan, finds errors, corrected and retested (iterative process) |
What is done in the installation stage? | The changeover (parallel, pilot, phased or direct) |
What is done in the documentation stage? | User doc (how to use) On screen doc (tips/help/error mssgs) Technical doc (maintenance - code/backup/data dict.) |
What is done in the evaluation stage? | Compare new system to old system, compare timescales etc. Identify maintenance. |
What is done in the maintenance stage? | Changes are made. Perfective (improvements wanted) Adaptive (new circumstances) Corrective (errors) |
