Three Branches of Science | physical science, Earth and Space Science, and life science |
Chemistry | The study of composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter. |
Physics | The study of matter and energy and the interactions between the two through forces and motion. |
Geology | The study of the origin, history, and the structure of the Earth. |
Astronomy | The study of the universe beyond Earth, including the Sun, moon, planets, and stars. |
Biology | Life science; the study of origin and the behavior of living things. |

Hypothesis | A proposed answer to a question (an educated guess) |
Manipulated Variable (Independent Variable) | The variable that causes a change in another |
Responding Variable (Dependent Variable) | The variable that only changes in response to the manipulated variable. (Things that are measured in units.) |
Scientific Theory | Well-tested explanation for a set of observations or experimental results. |
Scientific Law | A statement that summarizes a pattern found in nature |

Volume | The amount of space taken up in an object |
Density | The ratio of an object's mass to its volume |
Precision | A gauge of how exact a measurement is |
Accuracy | Is the closeness of a measurement to the actual value of what is being measured |
Thermometer | An instrument that measures temperature; how hot an object is |
Slope | The steepness of a line, a ratio of a vertical change to the corresponding horizontal change. (Rise over Run) |
Direct Proportion | A relationship in which a ratio of two variables is constant. |
Inverse Proportion | A relationship in which the product of the two variables is constant. |
