Question Answer
Why did the USSR want to sign the Nazi-Soviet pact? USSR feared than BR and FR was directing Hitler to the east. Historians believed Stalin was "buying time" to prepare the USSR for future attack from Germany and to gain the east of Poland as a "buffer zone" against Hitler.
When was the Nazi-Soviet pact signed and what did they agree? August 1939. They agreed not to go to war and secretly agreed to divide up Poland between them.
What is the significance of the Nazi-Soviet pact? Hitler's attack on Poland was inevitable (which would also drag BR and FR into the war). BR and FR lost the chance to ally with Stalin.
