Who were the WASP's? | White Anglo Saxon Protestants. Worried that their country was filling up with Southern and Eastern Europeans migrants and feared for jobs. They also feared migrants were communists. |
What were some of the Immigration laws put in place? | 1917 Immigration Law- made foreigners take a literacy test. 1921 Quota Act- Limited numbers coming into the USA from each country abroad to 3% of the total from that country already in the USA in 1910. 1924 National Origins Act- reduced the figure to 2% and based them on numbers in 1890 which favoured migrants from the 'old' Northern European states. |
Who were the KKK and what did they do? | The Ku Klux Klan was set up in 1866 and reformed in 1915. They had 5 million members in the 20's. They attacked blacks, catholics and jews. They met in secret at night wearing white hoods. They carried out rapes, beatings, torture. |
Why did courts often turn a blind eye to the KKK? | Some members of the courts were part of the KKK. |
When was the Klan leader arrested and how did it effect the Klan? | After 1925 for rape and murder and this made the membership fall. |
