Secondary sources of law |
All regulations are law, for example, The Brussels regulation II, and family law about divorce and child contact which is made in a EU country, it is recognised by other EU countries.
They require no further action, once they are EU law, there is no point every country in the union having slightly different laws.

Secondary sources of law - directives | set out principles, it is up to the state government to choose how it will be incorporated. Example victim directive: all member states must impliment a system where victims can get councilling, access to health care and compensation free of charge. If a child must give evidence in the court, it must be in the least traumatic way. The directive set up the minimum standard, but it is up to the state to implement them. |
The EU's view of the legal order | EU law enjoys the direct effect. It is supreme over the ordinary law in areas of competence. |
