Who are the Shi'a Muslims? The followers of Ali
Why do Shi'a and Sunni Muslims disagree? After Muhammad (pbuh)'s death, there was an argument over who should take leadership of the Ummah. Shi'a thought it should be Ali and Sunni thought it should be Abu Bakr.
What is the Ummah? The worldwide community of Muslims
Who was Abu Bakr? He became the leader of the Ummah after Muhammad (pbuh). He was a friend of Muhammad (pbuh)
Why do Shi'a believe that Ali should have led the Ummah after Muhammad (pbuh)? Because Ali was related to Muhammad (pbuh) (Married to Muhammad's (pbuh) daughter). Shi'a believe that the leaders had to be related to Muhammad (pbuh)
What do Sunni's believe the leader of the Ummah must be like? Sunni's don't care who leads as long as they care about the Ummah
What is the keyword for a Successor of Muhammad (pbuh)? Caliph
What is a Caliph? A successor of Muhammad (pbuh)
Who was the first Caliph? Abu Bakr
Which Caliph was Ali? The fourth
What did Sunnis do to Ali? Sunni Muslims killed Ali's children
What do Shi'a believe about Caliphs? Leaders must come from the direct birthline of Muhammad (pbuh)
What do Sunni and Shi'a Muslims agree on? - Tawhid - Prophets - Life after death
What do Sunni and Shi'a Muslims disagree on and explain - Predestination (Sunni) and Divine Justice (Shi'a) - Imams (Shi'a believe Imams should be directly descended from Muhammah (pbuh))
What is Divine Justice? Free-Will
Why can't there be both Pre-Destination and Free-Will? Because one means we choose what we do and one means Allah controls what we do. They are opposites
What are Imams and what do they do in Shi'a/Sunni Islam? - Imams are spiritual leaders of Islam - Shi'a Imams appoint a successor from their family to keep the direct connection to the Prophet - Sunni believe Imams can be anyone as long as they care about the Ummah
What happened to the first 11 Imams? They were martyred by Sunni
What do Shi'a believe about the 12th Imam? He is still alive today but can't be seen by human unless he chooses to be seen. He will bring peace and justice at the end of the world (Messiah)
What do Shi'a Muslims do that aren't how the Sunni Muslims pray? - They put their five daily prayers into three - They put their head on a brick when praying - They call their mosques Imambara - They start Ramadan at different times
What does Islam mean? To submit/give in to God
